modern marie antoinettes

While I’m not entirely sold on Chanel’s Cruise 2013 collection just yet, I do love these candid shots by Benoit Peverelli for Vogue UK. Many reviews have likened the models to being modern day Marie Antoinettes. The Marie Antoinette comparisons are quite obvious what with the powdery pastel wigs and the overall frou frou-ness of the collection. Plus there’s the itty bitty detail of the runway show being held at Marie Antoinette’s former home of Versailles. VERSAILLES! Only one of my favourite places ever. Touches such as platform trainers, denim fabrics, and a show playlist featuring the likes of M.I.A added some grit to the primarily feminine aesthetic. You’ve got to give it to Karl Lagerfeld. When he puts on a show, he. puts. on. a. show.

Also, I can’t use the term “modern Marie Antoinette” without including this behind the scenes shot of Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman on the set of Sofia Coppola’s movie. It’s one of my favourite images. Although, does anyone know the original source? I’ve had it saved on my computer for so long that it’s become a bit of a mystery.

  1. Oh la la… I love the super short bobs. I've always wanted to cut my hair that short, and a short fringe too! x

  2. I'm not sure if I'm completely on board with this collection of his, but you're right…Karl Lagerfeld really does know how to deliver. Candid shots are always the best shots!

  3. It was a beautiful collection indeed. I love the shots you've chosen of it. I often end up enjoying behind the scenes photos rather than the runway shots, they are just so much more interesting!
