In memory of Adam Yauch, also known as MCA from the Beastie Boys, here are a few photos from when I saw the band perform at Good Vibrations in 2007. Growing up, the Beastie Boys had always been on the periphery of my musical tastes. I never really remembered when I ‘discovered’ them (Licensed to Ill was released before I was even born), just that their songs had always been present in amongst the pop songs that would dominate my primary school years. I guess I have weekends spent watching Rage and a more musically versed older brother to thank for this. It wasn’t until high school that I delved deeper into the Beastie Boys discography and built upon the few songs that I already knew. Needless to say they soon cemented themselves as one of my favourite bands. So this morning when I checked my twitter feed (so Gen Y of me) it was with great sadness that I learned of MCA’s death. The Beastie Boys were a band that had become so entrenched in popular culture that it’s hard not to feel affected by such a loss. RIP MCA, you’ll be dearly missed.

i was taken back by it, a real lost to the world
Same. I'm not usually affected by 'celebrity' deaths but this one just struck a chord.
He will be dearly missed indeed. I remember listening to "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" when I was a kid and being so proud that the Beastie Boys are from Brooklyn like myself. A talented artist is gone but will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to Adam Yauch's family and friends..
Too sad.
My first Beastie Boys concert was in 1995, it's such a good memory for me.
Rest In Paradise
What I would do to be able to go back in time and go to that! (I would've been 8 haha). Still, I'm so glad to have seen them perform, even though it was when they were 'grown up' and suited up.
Lovely words, you're so lucky to have seen them perform together.
