festival edit: big day out

In a similar vein to my Laneway Festival edit, I thought I’d also do one for the Big Day Out festival since it’s about to hit our shores. While I’m not going to BDO this year*, these are my picks of festival-friendly attire (as opposed to the ASOS edit – high heels, really?) I’m basing my edit around the Gold Coast event which can be quite exhausting what with typically high summer temperatures, limited shade, and massive crowds. Cool and comfortable outfits are a must. For those not acquainted with the Gold Coast BDO experience, the festival fashion regularly consists of too-orange fake tans, tiny denim shorts, and bikini tops (blergh). I think these items capture the fun festival vibe and still manage to be very ‘GC’ without being too trashy.
9.ASOS Air Con Fan (ahh how cool – pardon the pun – are these? Definitely a festival must-have)
*Insert rant here about exorbitant ticket prices and the added accommodation costs associated with hiring out an apartment on the Gold Coast because driving down or catching public transport on the day is too much of a hassle. BrisKids will know what I’m talking about /end rant.

  1. Another great post Soph! My friends have to stop me from tallying up the amount of girls who think it is a great idea to have the top of their super short denim cutoffs undone! *shudders* I picked up a second hand lightweight aztec print dress from a friend's clothes swap the other day. Here's hoping I have enough time to alter it a little to wear to Syd BDO!

    Have a great weekend x

    1. Thanks. As you can tell I've been doing a lot of online window shopping lately haha. I've heard that Sydney BDO has a different vibe to GC, but from a fashion point of view your account seems quite similar haha. Your dress sounds perfect! Have fun πŸ™‚

  2. Absolutely love these colours! PASTElS FTW! Think the mint colour is my favourite also definitely can't wait for the day I can wear denim shorties again πŸ˜€ xx

  3. Really cute outfit ideas! I love that ASOS Silk Top and mint green backpack. I'm so excited for Big Day Out! $180 is an absolute rip off, but for my favourite band, RΓΆyksopp, who I've been wanting to see live for years now, it's worth it. I'm so excited for The Jezabels, Foster The People, Architecture In Helsinki and Best Coast too.

Luckily Perth is a small city and I don't have to travel too far for Big Day Out. Our train/bus service usually provides free transport to and from the event with most music festivals these days. πŸ™‚

  4. Hey Soph! Gorgeous post. You should get royalties from ASOS because I just bought the Colour Block Sunglasses in white. I have been looking for a pair in white exactly like this for a while so my hunt is over. Hope you're well hun xo

  5. THIS. IS. PERFECT. I am swooning over every single piece (especially 2, 4, 6 and 7). You have wonderful taste. As for BDO, meh. I've heard far too many poor reviews in the past few years to justify the GC adventure… X

    1. Thanks lovely! I've had some shocker BDOs, but last year got offered a last minute ticket and it turned out to be one of my better festival experiences. Very hit and miss.
