Inspired by the Dolce & Gabbana spring 2012 collection, I decided to DIY my own gem-embellished creation. Unable to find a suitable lacey number to embellish, I settled on a plain white t-shirt instead ($5 from Best & Less). This is a fairly quick and simple DIY. All you need is a top, some fancy looking gems, and craft glue. I still have heaps of gems left over so will be keeping my eye out for more things to embellish. More photos and instructions after the jump.
Bits and pieces. Make sure that the glue is suitable for fabric. The one I picked up is specifically for sticking gems onto things (woo hoo!) and is washable, which is what you want when gluing things to fabric.
Before you glue anything on, lay out the pattern. I stuck to a simple radiating pattern around the neckline.
After you’ve decided on a pattern, it’s time to start gluing. Just dot on a bit of glue to the backs of the gems and start applying. My tip is to stick to bigger sized gems as the smaller ones can get a bit fiddly.
Also, if you are thinking of creating a really large, intricate pattern, stick to stiffer fabrics. Stretchy fabrics (like cotton t-shirts) may cause the glue to expand and gems to fall off. That’s partly why I stuck to such a small area on this t-shirt.
Yay! Glad to see you did this DIY!
The shirt actually looks incredible. Love all the different coloured gems – they go so well together.
Amazing job! Look forward to seeing how you're going to incorporate it into an outfit!

FASHION SUICIDES!
@whitney: thanks! Decided this one was a must-do.
@foxtailandfern: I've got a pair of yellow shorts that I'm thinking of pairing it with. Or a black skirt, just to anchor all the colours. Can't wait!
@Hannah @LightningHeart: thanks ladies!
@fashionsuicides: very easy indeed! The hardest part was probably getting all the dried glue off my hands haha
Love the way it turned out! Love the way you used the d and g line as inspiration and made it simpler π

That is so cute! I love the colourful gems, they remind me of giant boiled lollies.
Wow this looks amazing, you must have so much patience!
@Tara: thanks! I can't imagine the time it would have taken to do something like the D&G garments – plus I'm sure they would've used better methods than craft glue haha
@Hannah: yay indeed!
@Emma @Megan @molly @S+T @Amanda: I'd love to see what you come up with. I think gems on a black sheer shirt would look pretty special.
@HerPersona: will have to check it out π
@j. : the most annoying part was dragging myself out of the house to get supplies haha
@RebeccaJane: glad you like it!
@Vicky: glad I could be of help π
@agnieska @Miranda: thanks
@Carmen: haha they do too! It kind of reminds me of the circus. Or carnivale. Something celebratory anyway!
@Jane: really wish I had a bedazzler for this. Gluing on those tiny beads was so fiddly.
That's well done ! π

You are super creative! Also love how you photograph things, everything is so clean & white.
This look really cute! If I were handy with glue I'd try it, but I would probably spill it all over the shirt, haha. x
Holy frick this is amazing!
Where did you get the jewels from? I've been searching for some myself but can never seem to find any.
