In Australia, you know summer/Christmas/New Years is well and truly on its way when voting opens up for the Triple J Hottest 100. I’ve been mulling over my short list (which initially consisted of thirty-eight songs) since Wednesday. I really need to just pick ten songs to vote for, because it’s unnecessarily doing my head in. One song that will definitely be making an appearance on my list is ‘Ffunny Ffrends’ by Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Not only is it a blissed out tune, but the film clip is also pretty sweet (anything with a disco ball is an instant hit in my books). What were your top songs of 2011?
Screen grabs: my own
My shortlist was ridiculous too – how can you narrow down a years worth of music into a list of 10!
I vote for Deep Sea Arcade, Bluejuice, Kimbra, Black Keys, Washington, Band of Skulls. Too many to choose from!
I have so many songs of 2011 that I love, can't really make a list though hehe

its so hard to choose a top song.. waaahhh
I saw UMO live the other week, so so good! When I narrow down my list, I'll let you know 😉
Taylor: top choices. Black Keys are a tough one for me. I LOVE them, but they keep getting pushed out of my top 10. Argh!
@Natalie: Same. And I usually love making lists haha
@ching: I feel your pain!
@Bianca: ooh was that when they played Alhambra? Jealous!
Oh man.. top songs of 2011, I have no clue, I was too pre occupied by uni and a mountain of other things to focus on music. So sad 🙁
oh and for me, I know Christmas is coming when the weather starts hitting the 30s consecutively for a week 🙁
pretty photos :))

i felt a little half-hearted about my vote this year, and realised half way through that all of my shortlisted songs were totally expected / not even much of a representation of my music taste. perhaps 2011 was just a musical lull for me ?
Ball Park Music / Cold War Kids / James Blake / Jay-Z + Kanye West / The Jungle Giants / Lana Del Rey / Little Dragon / Metronomy / Mr Little Jeans / Theophilus London
Oh boy oh boy, I think all of our 'short' lists are completely saturated with amazing music. Way too hard to narrow down to just 10! However, I think my number one would have to be Her Black Eyes, by Little Comets or Part Time Believer, by Boy and Bear.
