travel photos: wimbledon

When I booked my flight to London I had no idea that I’d be coming at such an opportune time. The Monday after I arrived was the first day of Wimbledon. My friend Bron lives only a short walk away from the tennis courts so it was definitely on our to-do list. We started queueing at about 8.30am and managed to get into the courts by 11am. The two hours of queuing passed fairly quickly thanks to some morning coffees, snacks, and a year’s worth of catch up chat. In the first photo you’ll notice that we got given a queue card – they take their queuing very seriously in England (lol). It was a nice day out and quite a novelty to be somewhere that I had only ever seen on television. We managed to spot Novak Djokovic on the grounds, and even made it to centre court to see the Andy Murray match (thanks to MORE queuing at the ticket resale point). But the definite highlight of my day was something that happened while we were queuing for resale tickets. Brace yourselves, because… I SAW NOEL FIELDING AND HE WAS WEARING GOLD SHOES AND IT WAS AMAZING. If you don’t know who Noel Fielding is, google The Mighty Boosh and educate yourselves. Then we can talk.

If you don’t know, he is the one in the tartan jacket. I’m kind of bummed I didn’t get photos of his gold shoes. They were Amazing.

  1. @hollypop: I couldn't have said it better myself.

    @Vicky: I think I actually started hyperventilating…

    @Elyse: I was SO SO excited to see him. It was really the last place I'd expect to see him.

    @tara: a goose that has had the pleasure of being in Noel Fielding/Vince Noir's presence! 😛

  2. Ahh Noel. He used to live round the corner from my boyfriend so I always saw him but never dared take a pic :p I've never been to Wimbledon, the shame, looks like a grand day out! xx

  3. Wimbledon looks so cool, but i have never understood tennis sadly 🙁 Noel? isn't he the guy from the one of the kasabian musicvideo? cooool dude!

  4. Oooo, I love it – the queueing control that is. I hate people who push in, or stand all stragly.
    Or like when the subway line CLEARLY goes sideward with the rope and not into the main walkway and people stand in front of me as if I'm standing there for nothing.
    Anyways…
    Looks like you had fun 🙂

  5. these photographs are lovely. i'm definitely determined to go to wimbledon next year, i can't believe i've never been! though to be honest i do quite enjoy watching it on the television whilst tucked up in bed!

    oh, noel is such a babe.

  6. I play tennis and am quite the avid fan jealous of your ticket! noel, although I don't know him super well the gold shoes and tartan jacket speak of his awesomeness.

  7. @Rachel: I was waiting for one of you Londoners to be all like "yeah he lives next door to me" haha. If I was in that situation I wouldn't have taken a photo either. But he was getting interviewed and everyone else was so I joined in haha.

    @LuuH: yep, he's in a Kasabian vid.

    @Jazzabelle: definitely make sure you go on a day when the sun is out!

    @SamanthaJoy: he exuded brilliance. Even when performing the mere act of walking.

    @rebecca: I know! It was on the top of my agenda but then we got to centre court and forgot!

    @Fowzee: you can queue for general admission to get into the grounds, but yes, generally I think the main court tickets are harder to come by.
